Library cards need to be renewed periodically, in order to help keep library records up to date.  This also helps protect patron privacy, as expired cards are eventually purged from the system.

To renew your card, please contact the library through Ask a Librarian Delaware or by calling them directly. You can visit any Delaware public library, since we are a statewide system, to renew your card. Here is a list of libraries with hours, locations and contact information. Please bring your photo ID with proof of residency, just to make sure.

Thank you again for using Ask a Librarian Delaware and for your support and use of our Delaware Libraries.

  2. Hi Barbara, You can still access all of the eMedia resources from Delaware Libraries with an expired card (https://lib.de.us/emedia/). If you have any issues accessing these, please use the email form on this page http://answers.delawarelibraries.org/ so we can further assist you with your library card.

  3. Why do I have to renew my card every 2 months. I just signed up in Sept 2023 and needed to renew on Nov 2023. I had a library card years ago and I don’t remember having to renew it so often.

  4. HI PJ - thank you for your question. Virtual library cards are set to expire every 90 days, but will still work with logging into the online digital resources, so you can disregard that message. I did see your card has been renewed until Feb 2024, though. Full service, physical cards that you sign up in person at one of the Delaware Libraries expire every 3 years.
